About the event

We are excited to invite you to the 2021 Fall Talks by AcademicPeersNL for all academics ((TT/ assistant, associate and full professors) in the Netherlands. The talks and discussions are virtual. We hope they will be useful to all.

  • Thursday November 4, 16:00-17:00hr, Lambert Speelman from the Dutch Research Council will discuss funding opportunities for academics in the Netherlands. He will give an overview of funding options within NWO, with focus on the Talent scheme, open competitions, collaborative grants in the NWA and the Knowledge and Innovation Convenant. He will also focus on funding possibilities for building your own lab.

  • Thursday November 18, Margot Gerritsen from Stanford University in California will discuss the Imposter Phenomenon and suggest strategies for reducing any negative impacts this may have on your career. The IP is a well-known phenomenon in academics and other competitive environments. Margot, not a stranger to IP herself, has studied this phenonomen amongst the student and faculty populations at Stanford and other universities. She has mentored many faculty peers who struggle with IP and has seen that developing a coping strategy can help reduce stress in the workplace and improve performance (and joy).

  • Thursday December 2, Paul van der Molen from CITO will join us to give an overview of math and science preparation of Dutch high school students. Understanding what entering students know or do not know will help you better prepare for any teaching you (will) do at university. Paul will give a general overview of secondary (highschool) education in the Netherlands, will explain grading and diploma requirements, and will discuss the critical changes in the curriculum in the last 6 years as well as upcoming changes.

All talks are virtual, by zoom.

Please register for the talks on this page to receive Zoom information.

We look forward to seeing you! Also feel free to pass this invitation along to your academic peers. If they are not on AcademicPeersNL.com, they can send an email to margot.gerritsen@stanford.edu to ask to be included on the participant list.

Cheers and best wishes,

Margot
