I am an assistant professor at the Engineering and Technology Institute Groningen (ENTEG), University of Groningen, leading a Metamaterials group. Currently, the group includes 3 PhD and several MSc students working on the development of metamaterials capable of controlling acoustic, dynamic, and mechanical material properties for multiple applications.

What attracted me to my new department and university? I love Groningen since I came here to join my husband during his PhD time. The city has a special culture and vibrant atmosphere that always inspire. In terms of research and work, the University of Groningen provides unique opportunities for a career path by allowing to develop an independent research line in close collaboration with other prominent researchers. This has been the key reason attracting me to this place. What are my one or two most favorite projects at this moment? My favorite recently started project is about applications of metamaterials to create personalized implants that are light-weight, body-friendly, and of improved longevity. Another favorite project is devoted to the design of advanced metamaterial architectures to enhance control over acoustic and structural waves over broadband frequencies.

What are my fondest hopes for my research and my teaching for the next few years? My fondest hope for my research is to find as much as possible real-life applications for theoretical concepts of metamaterials. As a teacher, my deepest wish is to inspire passion in wave dynamics – my favorite scientific discipline. What one thing would I invent if I could? 3D printer. What I'd like to explore, learn or do with other scientists? I would like to explore a variety of disciplines, including solid-state physics, chemistry, electrodynamics, civil and structural engineering, etc. Especially, I am fascinated with biology and biological materials because they are an indispensable source of inspiration for the development of artificial materials.
